Suddenly I was awoken by yelling and what seemed like fifty thousand beams of light burning my eyes.
Danann
Shoving in as much breakfast as I can stuff in my mouth.
Willow
I look for my books that are scrambled all over the table.
Chacaan
My eyes flicker at the glowing light from the kitchen.
Jack
I fumble around for the curtain and a sudden burst of light hits my face in the darkness.
Kristina
We all say our good mornings and attack the pancake stack, grabbing them like a pack of half-starved lions.
India
I’m woken by the excruciating screech of my mothers voice and lazily roll over to go back to sleep.
Drew
Angrily I awaken with a startle, to the deafening racket from the kitchen.
Chantal
I drag myself to get the dog some food then walk outside into freezing cold ice block.
Matt
Then I move swiftly downstairs towards the raucous, open the door and the noise just gets worse.
Eilish
I heaved myself reluctantly out of my messed up bed and slipped into my torn jeans and scruffy t-shirt.
Connor
I am awakened by my cat grumpily scratching my bed and I lazily jump out and throw the cat outside.
Joey
I’m late, I grab my weetbix from the microwave and scoff it down, put some food in my lunchbox, clasp my bag and leave.
Emma
Once dressed I stumble out to the kitchen through a family rush-hour.
Simon
When I arrive in the lounge Sam is there ready to start antagonising me and mum is tempting me with a delicious hot chocolate.
Ella
Awakening to the razzling sound of my alarm clock I flick on the light forcing me to close my eyes.
Ben
I awaken to the radiating voice of my mum at seven o’clock and rummage through my drawers to find holey pants and clean shirts.
Ethan
Heaving miserably out of bed, I gaze tiredly at my messy room, piles of clothes left, right and centre.
MacCauley
My mum awakens me with the bright light shining in my eyes.
Claudia
I spinelessly rise from my bed with the light gleaming in my eyes as I heaved the blankets over my head.
Sharna
Dad awakens me by opening the door and the beam of light hits me like a million torches.
Dan
I devour my food.

WEEK 5
Now that we are back into the swing of thing, after illness, ski camps, and teacher courses, I can update our class page. You are all beginning to show huge improvement in your creative writing skills, especially by using stronger verbs, adverbial phrases and more effective sentence starters. As you can see i have put on your "My MORNINGS" passages that you began last week and next week I'll put the "OUTSIDE AT NIGHT" passages.
The Olympics are drawing to a close as will our project on the Olympics. the main aim for this is to get you thinking about the colossal undertaking it must have been for Beijing to prepare and build for the Olympics. I am also hoping you will improve on your skills in Google Sketch Up.
Thanks for being so patient while I was away so much over the last two weeks. I know Mrs van Rensburg has enjoyed her time with you.
Keep working hard.
Mrs Mac
Okay so my first for this term is also my last!!! I have GUILT, which is why your are getting this quick wind-up for the term.
It has been a fabulous term for me as your teacher since you have all shown that extra bit of "oomph" that it takes to work to a deadline, research independently and present your findings in unique and creative ways! Your success makes me feel very lucky to share our days together with such inspired students.
When we line it all up we have covered, successfully, a lot of things this term. Your Term 2 evaluations on the homework sheets show an impressive array, but here's the list again:
- Numeracy (Addition and Subtraction)
-Numeracy (Multilication and Division-to be continued into term 3)
-SAR reading Laboratory
-The Highwayman-SMARTS projects
-Daily Fitness Levels
-Large Ball Games
-Statistics-Graph attack and investigations
-STEPS-Individual research projects(your choice of topic)
-STEPS-Paired research (Local Volunteer Group)
-ICT-creating graphs on Excel; understanding, designing and creating slide
shows using Power Point
-Art-resistance scratching,
-Writing-personal recounts; beginning to develop our character writing skills
-Sounds Alive-weekly spelling practise
-Oral Language-speaking and listening each Thursday to improve our skills
-Class story-Waiting for Anja / Maggot Pie / When Keua Calls
A pretty full-on term!!!!!
So have a fabulous break, do lots that will keep you warm and I'll see you back at Two in Two!
Mrs Mac
It seems like an age since I posted anything new here! We have just about completed Week 9, will be moving into Week 10 and on into Week 11, then...HOLIDAYS!
This week has been huge, with students making big jumps in numeracy, reading and writing...lots of the "AH..HA I get it now!!!!" There has also been an added boost to getting homework completed AND handed in on time with each star being worth 10 points towards the end of term class event. I will bring this topic up on Monday and ask for suggestions as to how the hardworking homeworkers can be rewarded. You can post your suggestions here if you want.
One of our big learnings this term has been to develop our writings skills further so that we are "showing, not telling" the reader. Here are a couple of Year 6 pieces that most definitely show progression in this area. We used a poem by the famous New Zealand poet James K. Baxter as our model to help us create our on image of a special place.
I'm going to have a break from the Brain Teaser for while but welcome your feedback / comments on anything we are learning this term.
Once again thanks for a terrific week! You are all such motivated learners and make teaching a joy each day!
Mrs Mac.
MY GRANDPARENTS HOME
My grandparents home is usual
Enough, it has;
A filthy pond , a flower , a veggie
Garden , a home made rope
Swing, and even two old tin
Sheds. My twin sister and I did
What granddaughters do-
Watered various multi-coloured
Flowers, grew delicious veggies,
Coloured inside the black lines,
Became a nuisance, sucked at
Our thorn-pricked fingers and
Even got “Nana-hugs”-
Doing nothing important.

MY HOUSE
My house is usual enough; it has
A pond , trampoline ,motor bikes,
Play station ,and a massive TV
I do what boys do- bounce on
The trampoline , skillfully ride
Motor bikes , cluelessly watch TV,
Addictively play the play station, and swim-
Doing nothing important

I am posting this while I wait (in brightened anticipation!) for our Senior Disco to begin which will be my first ever Clyde Disco!!! Rock On! Week 6 was a huge TESTING week but we all scarped through and now I spend the weekend analysis all the results and make important learning decisions on your behalf. Thanks for the full-on effort you put into all the tests that came your way!
WEEK 7/8
Both these weeks will be short which is why I am combining the 2 here. Hopefully we can achieved some good solid learning with few interruptions. We continue with our Kia Kaha / Conflict unit which is proving to be very enlightening for us all. In addition we will be focusing on our addition and subtraction strategies and decimal skills in Numeracy time. Our observational sketching will continue as time allows and of course we keep up with our Words and Sounds Alive.
Here is a piece of words alive writing from MacCauley Harris who, as you may agree has the 4 "W's" a wonderful way with words. This picture is one Cody extended himself to do once he gained the skills of 3 Dimensional drawing in our geometry unit. Go Cody and Mac!!!
THE NIGHT DROP by MacCauley Harris
I was so scared my teeth were chattering, it was my turn to get dropped off...alone...in...the...dark! Sitting down I said my goodbyes to those who were left and then darkness plunged down. I was left by myself, in the dark, terrified with only a torch to defend against the monsters of the dark!!! I felt like screaming and sprinting back down the track to a parent.
Finally, after what seemed like hours, the others came along and collected me. I was so proud of myself for making it. I had managed a 10 minute stint, alone in the dark!
Strutting down the hill I was filled with a sense of happiness as I congratulated my classmates for making it as well. I made it!!!!
Brain teaser to be posted next Monday!
Congratulations to Eilish for being the first to get the Week 6 one!
Mrs Mac
What a week last week having our important visitors in the class so often! I was very proud to have them visit us cos you are all such hard workers and in touch with your learning. Thanks! ERO were highly impressed with our WHOLE school!
This week has started with a hiss and roar hasn't it. PAT testing seems to be the flavour for this week but we will fit in some 3 Dimensional Sketching, Kia Kaha, Rad Reading, Words Alive etc.
The important part of this week is your goal setting, thinking about what you need to focus on to help improve you learning and even your life skills. I have a few of my own to work on and I'll be sharing these with you all next week...yeap even teachers (adult ones) need to set goals!!! Hopefully you'll have spent some time with your parents discussing the main areas of "routines", "behaviour", "maths" and "language" and will be ready for our interview next week. Lucky you, you get a half day off school on Tuesday cos' school finishes at 12:30 for interviews!
Heres to another g8 week.

Week Five
We start our week with a powhiri to welcome our guests from the Ministry of Education who will be spending a few day with the school looking around and chatting with us. This week will also see us continue with the Kia Kaha programme, begin the class reading and writing group focus and finishing our Geometry Unit. Some of the class will be at the Central Otago Swimming Champs on Wednesday so wish them all the best.
